CNC machined from 1/2″ 304 stainless, this is an adapter for converting a Volvo manifold to a universal T3 flange. This adapter is designed to be welded directly to the manifold.
As compared to other manifold adapters, this adapter is CNC machined on both sides which gives a smooth flow transition for exhaust flow. It is tapped for M10 x 1.5 studs, which are necessary to support the weight of heavier turbos.
The advantage of a weld-on flange vs machining the lip off of a factory manifold is that the additional height provided by the weld-on flange gives more clearance for the rear engine mount on FWD cars. Also, on stock manifolds the lower two holes are large diameter pass throughs. When these holes are tapped for M10 studs, there is minimal thread engagement which leads to loose studs as thermal expansion causes the threads to pull out.
Due to a difference in throat diameters, two versions are available – one for the ‘R’ manifold (30637921) and one for the ‘Japanifold’ (9207688). The Japanifold has a larger port diameter and a runner orientation which decreases combustion event overlaps. The Japanifold retains more of characteristic 5 cylinder ‘growl’ and can provide up to 10% better flow vs the ‘R’ manifold.
We can provide the adapter welded to an R manifold or a Japanifold. The cylinder head and turbo mating face is surfaced to .001″, guaranteeing a long, leak free life.
$95 covers the cost of welding the flange and flattening the mating surfaces to a manifold you provide. If you prefer not to send as a manifold, we have ‘R’ manifolds on hand. We do not have any Japanifolds in stock, so if you prefer to use a Japanifold, you will need to send us one.
