Pairing a New Controller or Display Unit

The wideband controller and display unit are paired to each other using their unique MAC addresses. For new purchases, the two units will come paired to each other, no setup required. However, if one of the units is replaced, the MAC addresses stored in the display unit will need to be updated.

Updating the MAC address in the display requires a Windows or Mac laptop or desktop. Full instructions are below, in the firmware update seciton.

Firmware Update

Periodically, we will update the firmware for the display unit and/or controller. The firmware on both units can easily be updated using a Windows or Mac laptop or desktop. Updating the firmware is optional – something that will never need to be done, however, updates will expand the functionality of the device.

Updating the firmware erases the stored MAC address that is necessary for the two units to pair to each other. Therefore, you’ll need to input the MAC address of the wideband controller into the display unit after updating the firmware. The instructions for updating the firmware:

  • Plug the display unit into your computer.
  • Click the ‘Connect to Device’ button.
  • From the pop up menu that appears, select ‘USB/JTAG serial debug unit’.
  • In the next pop-up, click ‘Logs and Console’.
  • In the console, type mac. You’ll see the display unit and wideband controller’s MAC address displayed.
  • Write down the wideband controller’s MAC address. You can save this information to a text file by clicking ‘Download Logs’. Alternatively, you can take a picture of the screen.
  • Click ‘Back’.
  • Click ‘Install Firmware for AMOLED Wideband Display’ and then ‘Install’ – Installation takes about 1 minute. Don’t unplug the device or touch your computer during this process.
  • Once the installation is complete, click ‘Done’ then ‘Logs & Console’ then ‘Reset Device’.
  • The display unit will now show ‘Waiting For MAC’
  • In the console you’ll see some lines related to device initialization information, the last line being a prompt to enter the partner MAC address. Enter the wideband controller’s MAC address that was obtained earlier (capitalization doesn’t matter).
  • Upon successful entry, you’ll see the message ‘MAC saved: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX’.
  • To verify that you entered the correct MAC, type mac into the console and you’ll see the currently programmed MAC address.
  • You’re all done! You can now unplug the device and put it back in the car.

If you forgot to make note of the wideband controller’s MAC address, don’t worry, we keep records of every MAC address. Send us an email to obtain the addresses of your devices.
